Sunday nights are tv fashion bliss. between the Kardashian shows and Real Housewives, I always know I'm in for a treat, be it good or god-awful. This week took a pleasant turn because of these three items...

1. Christian Louboutin Boots. Now these are not the exact ones Khloe rocked on last night's episode of Kim and Kourtney Take New York- however, I never would have discovered them without the aforementioned pair. Love that even the back strap is studded! Details people, details.

2. Ruffle Collar Top. Anyone else notice that Kourt was looking way more high fashion than the usual jacket, tee, skinny jean and heel/boot combo that the Kardashians have become known for? I think NY is making her step her game up- and I like it. Can anyone ID the blouse?

3. Dashing Suit and Bow Tie. I know I've expressed that bowties have unfortunately become overrated (and thus played out) but THIS is how you wear a suit and tie. Peter Thomas of RHOA rocked it how it was meant to worn- in the debonaire and oozing sophisitication way. Bravo man! Wish I had a better picture, you need to see it close up- apparently no one cares that much about him :(

i scored these handmade Velvet earrings from the Haven sale last week and they salute so many of my favorite styles. the feather/bullet/turqoise combo (pictured in the upper lefthand corner) has been providing some MAJOR inspiration!

can't wait to hear the remixes that come out of this one. local celebrity, harvard bass 'pruno'.

Harvard Bass - Pruno by harvardbass
every time i've gone to post this gem on facebook, i haven't been able to bring myself to do it. while the beats are as grimey as any other dub hit, i continuously get wary when the lyrics kick in. don't be fooled, it is in fact properly titled PORNSTEP. it's also one of my little sister's favorite songs, and as awesomely womp-tastic as it is- probably the most awkward jam in the world to hear her sing along to. but it can't be hidden any longer...call me whore, now catch some more.

skins

for the past two weeks, tuesdays have marked the day parents, advocate groups, and advertisers bitch about skins. all i wanna know is how long its gonna last because its killing my buzz. i haven't connected and obsessed over a teen drama like this since my beloved Degrassi and i don't want it to be ruined by whiners all season long. H&R Block, Schick, Wrigley, Taco Bell, GM and now Subway have all pulled their commercial spots.

the Parents Television Council has dubbed it "the most dangerous television show for children that we have ever seen." and i dub that "the silliest thing i've ever heard." so its cheeky and weird. get over it. no one wants to watch a show about boring people.

inspired by RHOBV, I decided that AF needed a bit of a facelift for the new year. I put my dancing shoes aside for the night and busted out what i think is a pretty cool version 2.0!

made my way out to fluxx last night after hearing positive things from two trusted and party experienced friends- needless to say I knew I was in for a good time. the closest thing san diego has to offer to the vegas scene, fluxx steps it up even further by changing theme and decor each month.

thursdays are now EDM nights, hosting both local and full-fledged electronic rockstars. while you could tell it wasn't quite the voyeur crowd, you could still pick out the hipsters on the dancefloor. I got rave reviews (pun-intended) on a slouchy beanie I knit and threw on last minute to dress down my LBD since it was, afterall, only a thursday night. club goers also seemed particularly drawn to the feather earrings I made a few months back, some even grabbing for them- ow! (apparently they felt nice...) since the only picture I have of either is both dim, hazy and a metaphor for how we were all feeling after a 4-hour dance sesh, Jenn literally helped a sista out to show how they're really supposed to look.

So by now everyone who's been pining for another DP Coachella performance has officially had their hopes crushed. I feel your pain. Here's a video of their 2006 set in Indio to at least keep the dream alive for the future...

Editor's note: who's to say they can't come out during Kanye's set? hmmm...

peeked inside haven again today after my interview round-up and fell in love all over- leave it to voyeur to be the one place that "gets" me, yet again. with just 200 sq ft, haven is jam packed with all the goodies a pretty young thing needs! feathers, studs, lace, leather, boho or rocker....it's like my heart exploded into one kick-ass location. oh and the icing on that edgy red velvet cake? they support some amazing local designers.

while perusing weheartit tonight, i came across a few things:

1. i hate it when girls wear headbands underneath their hair. know what i mean? yeah, ya look stupid.

2. i have no idea where i would wear it, but i need a studded garter belt ASAP.

3. i go on weheartit way too much.

"This film is tribute to all people everywhere who get lost in music."

For one week only, techno documentary Speaking in Code is streaming in its entirety from Pitchfork.

Showcasing the struggle of a genre and its promoters, the film speaks to a larger psych and sociological sense of why the struggle, and believe me it IS a struggle, becomes worthwhile.

When I complain about how mainstream and popularized electronic music is getting, I'm clearly quick to forget how sub-culture it is here in the US in stark comparison with Europe. It still carries a stigma here, and it all still (somehow?) gets lumped into the 'techno' category. When you recognize their history with it, their necessity for it, our passion and obsession doesn't seem so crazy. That passion and obsession is really the ONLY driving force keeping the ball rolling, the artists returning, and the festivals growing.
So we're head over heels, out of this world, in love with this music. It's a reach here in the States to try and create an environment like Berlin or Barcelona, rich in EDM history and where techno still reigns supreme. There it's a way of life, here it's an escape from life...it's where we get lost. Speaking in Code just asks that you let us.
