70s Throwback DIY

0

Posted by Melissa Carpenter | Posted in , , , | Posted on 5:56 PM

Been in a bit of 70s obsession mode as of late, partly thanks to this last DIY project. After perusing Marialia (another great stop for bows) I came across her amazing heart rhinestoned sunnies... and their OOC pricetag. So I set out to make my own version. J found sunnies on Amazon for less than $10, and then it was off to Michaels for some Swarovski love.

I decided to use a few different sized stones to create a bubble look. The contrast between the black and the crystals also seems to give it a sweet Audrey vibe.

Obsessing. Penelope of Fashion Fade is beyond fab and this pic of her safety pin cross tee has totes inspired me to make my own! I love her sexy rocker style, she always inspires me to play up my edgier pieces. Can't wait to get started on this baby, can you say cheap chic?!

So I've been drooling over Confetti System for what seems like a year, and you'd think by now I would've just saved to buy one of these pom-pom streamer creations. Nah- you know me too well. Tired of my boring bedroom walls, I attempted to make my own, and while it's not quite up to par with Confetti System, it defintely adds some pizazz to the room!

made my way out to fluxx last night after hearing positive things from two trusted and party experienced friends- needless to say I knew I was in for a good time. the closest thing san diego has to offer to the vegas scene, fluxx steps it up even further by changing theme and decor each month.

thursdays are now EDM nights, hosting both local and full-fledged electronic rockstars. while you could tell it wasn't quite the voyeur crowd, you could still pick out the hipsters on the dancefloor. I got rave reviews (pun-intended) on a slouchy beanie I knit and threw on last minute to dress down my LBD since it was, afterall, only a thursday night. club goers also seemed particularly drawn to the feather earrings I made a few months back, some even grabbing for them- ow! (apparently they felt nice...) since the only picture I have of either is both dim, hazy and a metaphor for how we were all feeling after a 4-hour dance sesh, Jenn literally helped a sista out to show how they're really supposed to look.

If you don't know Erica Domesek or her site, PS I MADE THIS, you're missing out on some epic DIY madness. Whether you're there for instructions or inspiration, it's hard not to gush over all the creativity. Girls like Erica remind me that DIY isn't just a hobby, it's a lifestyle.

"PS- I made this... is a movement. It's a call to action to reimagine, reuse & reinvent. I see it. I like it. I make it. "
