UPSIDE: Free Pepper Concert

DOWNSIDE: Harley Davidson...

Here's more on the place we pre-gamed at...

PIZZA PORT BREWING COMPANY
571 Carlsbad Village
Carlsbad, CA

Great food, countless beers on tap, and a young waitstaff made up the surprisingly family-friendly brewery environment. Stop by one of the three locations on your next trip down the coast (also in Solana Beach and San Clemente).
Sig Eps + techno will forever remind me of EDC. After some Pizza Port and light drinking back at Blake's Vista house, the electro, substances and rave stories came out. JD was quick to remind me that he and Blake were to thank for my love of Boys Noize. The electro god debuted this song, that Friday night in June: STARTER

HARD HAUNTED MANSION 2009
When I'm not out on the town, you can find me holed up in my room with headphones. As a music snob, I pride myself on my ability to call beats before they go big. Music's one of very few unifying characterisitics of my family and mainly a requisite to my sanity. I don't have any favorite genre, I just dig passionate tunes.

Haven't been going out too much but when a recently-turned-21 LA friend came into town, I decided to show her two of SD's partying staples. Hugely different in their environments, I rarely find parallels bewtween DT and PB. Think about it, their crowds couldn't be more opposite.

What I came across during both nights out, however, were the venues' use of throwback videos. Now I'm not talking Biggie Smalls here people. I'm talking Iggy Pop, Michaek Franti, full fledged sing-a-longs. Never have I been so consumed by video screens. Wiskey Girl in DT and Tavern at the Beach in PB have the right idea leading the drunken masses in song to their favorite 70's 80's and 90's hits. Both nights were closed with more than your typical Journey hit. Refreshingly old skool. Step up.
There's no simpler way to put it- I heart Ivy.The DT boutique hotel caters to all different age groups and moods offering dining, lounge, and club options. While we've all partied our little hearts out on the rooftop digs, Eden, some of us are eager to tame our summer ways and try Ivy’s October launch: the wine bar.

Featuring 80 world class offerings, Ivy has created multiple tasting size options with a keycard pouring system to rival DT competitors like Syrah Spirit & Wine Parlor.

Bit of a light weight? The wine bar also offers paired appetizers and deserts to leave you warm and fuzzy rather than tipsy-turvy.

I'll start with the Veuve Clicquot. What? Champagne’s wine too.

... since I moved back to SD. I grew up knowing the ins and outs of this town, but years in the LA and OC areas have given me new perspectives on social circles. I’ve made it my mission to dive into some real south coast living, and here, we’ll discover it together.

In a city where you don’t know anyone anymore, it pays to be social. Parties, dining and drinks are my speciality, and fashion, art, and luxury are my right hand gals. So how do you live it up in a city defined by its laid-back nature? Me… I get by with a little help from my friends.
The madness that is Midsummer at the Phi Tau house seemed the perfect close to my last fraternity shebang. Arriving after midnight to avoid the majority of the random kids that show up to these things, I was pleased to find DJ EJ spinning live in the backyard, a house full of friends and family and enough drama to keep my attention for the 5- hour span we stayed. I mean, your last fraternity party (ever) doesn't exactly warrant a 2-o'clock departure.

Fights between the couples of the year (or the minute), blowing the guys minds with talks of how big our boobs actually were, fuck-marry-kill games, and heart-to-hearts in the attic place this party near the top of the ranking spectrum.

It's hard to think that I won't be at Kookie Tuesday like usual, come September. Perhaps we can start our own tradition to substitute. However, I saw nearly everyone who has had an impact in my life over the past four years, and left for the West Co house feeling extremely blessed with such amaing friends.

* In other news, please note, that when traveling from a party at 5 am, McDonalds is the wrong craving to try and fuel, as they have already started serving breakfast at this time.
Nothing surprises me these days. Like a child with visitation rights, I have been stuck between LA and SD for years, and after DAYS (yeah, almost an entire week ladies and gentlemen) of not sleeping because of killer anxiety, I am at the best place I could be with my decisions.

In case you didn't get that, I'm ready to come home San Diego! While I love my P-town homies to death, I am stoked to be without some of the ish I've been carrying for MONTHS. Not holding any grudges, and not looking back, I'm finally okay (slash more than okay, actually excited?!) with my choice to move home for a bit.

The sense of relief I get from knowing I've cut all ties is unparalleled. Clean Slate. Not most of course, just the ones who have really been holding me back. *SIGH* This. Is. Awesome.

And they say absence makes the heart grow fonder....pffffffff :)

Conservation Efforts

While cleaning up this morning at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 respectively, (I have a sleeping problem and a housewife complex) it dawned on me that while we are quick to share drinks and recycle cans, we often forget to conserve our resources.

I poured an approximate 25 half-full beer cans down the drain after being untouched and left out all night. We should all make a conscious effort to haste waste, by stepping up to finish the abundance we bring or giving back to the community by donating to those less fortunate than ourselves.

There are sober kids everywhere people, and more importantly, the smell of beer in the morning makes me gag.
Ahhh, Thursday...so close to freedom! Wind down before the weekend kicks off with a combination of my favorite vices: champagne and margaritas

The Sparkling Margarita

1 ounce tequila
1/2 ounce Cointreau
1 ounce lemon juice
1 ounce simple syrup
2 ounces champagne
lemon peel

Combine first four ingrediants in a cocktail shaker, strain into a glass, top with champagne, garnish with lemon peel.
Margarita Monday = success.

So much so that we managed to clear out the party, return the boys to the house, witness watermelon and apples being smashed against Rez's door, and rescue a lost dog.

Among all the action, the highlight of my night had to be texting incriminating information to the wrong person...again. I'm great at double checking my texts for grammar and spelling but for some reason I'm NOTORIOUS (B.I.G. status) for not checking who it is I'm texting. It's not a drunk habit, because sadly, I manage to do it in my most sober and regular state.

My bad.
Nights with the boys have been few and far between since turning 21 over a year ago, but the sense of homecoming 300 W. Center Street brings me will never dwindle.

Reminiscing with the Delta Tau boys will always be a favorite past time, and as proven on Saturday, while celebrating Donnie's 21st, the inebriated memories of basement parties, shack talks, and mr. kitties never get old.

The PKT house has been home to some of the best college nights I've had, as well as some of the best people I know. I was brought to the infamous house upon arrival to CPP, and rarely veered course over the last four years. Countless (100's?) porch nights sealed my fate.

Bring on my last Midsummer Madness and long live the Zeta-Phi Tau tradition.

Over capacity much? Apparently 17,500 kids is too much party for The Forum to handle. Inglewood PD shut down Hard Summer last night 2 performances in around 11pm after kids barelled to the main floor. If they were this upset waiting to see Chromeo take the stage, imagine how livid they were when the entire event was cancelled just minutes later...

Who needs pool parties when you can refresh without boundaries? That's right, I'm talking oceans. While I thought rooftop digs were the height of San Diego luxury I was proved wrong by 20-somethings Maddox and friends who spend their days sailing around the harbors of Shelter Island.

Afternoon mimosas were a classy precursor to the shots and beer bongs that followed; a touch of the river in a cleaner, fresher scene. Who knew yacht kids could be so fun? Cheers boys.

Summer's one big party, and everyone's invited...
To fully understand where I'm coming from in my opinions, you have to realize where I've been. Like many a San Diego girl, I'm a party princess. What I've learned from stepping out of the SD bubble is that there is simply too much money floating around in a city with too few cares.

The summer after high school my priority was partying as much as possible before going away to college. I clubbed without being 21, had Grey Goose bottles at my disposal, and played with boys 10 years my senior. It didn't seem out of the ordinary, it was what all my girls did. For four months our routine consisted of sleeping til 11, heading to the beach, finding a party for the night, and finding our way sloppily home...or at least somebody's home.

Four years and countless college parties later, I've learned my limits, responsibilities, obligations, and some real priorities. While I enjoy a night out as much as the next person, I am far from the 18-year-old mess I once flaunted.

After returning home this summer, I've realized that some San Diego girls don't have so much luck. You know the ones I'm talking about, you've heard all about them. The fallen party girls who have nothing left but DUI's and the keys to their parents houses. The kids who don't go to school, don't work, and don't have a care in the world while soaking up the sun, as well as their parents resources. They look, dress, and act exactly the same, with each member of the group being completely interchangable. And it's times like this, I THANK GOD I went away to school.

I beg of you, youth of San Diego, to burst the bubble; at least for a year. I know...who would want to escape the monotony of deciding whether to party Downtown or PB, to drive your dad's bro truck or your mom's beemer, or to get wasted at the desert or the river? It sounds like a tough life...but trust me, you'll be better for it. I AM.
