RUSKO!

FINALLY got to see my man Rusko. If you're headed to Audiotistic tonight, you're in for a killer treat. The current King of Dub might just be the most high-energy DJ I've ever seen. Believe it guys, he's the real deal- his sets are busting at the seams with filthy dub passion. It's hard to imagine an entire venue in downtown SD was dancing to dub, unless you've seen it with your own eyes. Miracles do happen, people... and you can thank the rascal Rusko ;)

PS. Anyone have video from his Red Circle set??

If you can't beat em, join em.

What stops you from starting your own business?

I toy with the idea day in and day out. This article just about sums it up- but most importantly, the comment at the end stands out.
Don't think, just do.
Shall we?

When to say when.

The amount of negative press surrounding this year's EDC has been overwhelming. Hell, I'll admit to adding fuel to the fire by my own complaints (which can be found HERE.) It's had most of us wondering where the rave scene will go next. It doesn't get much bigger than Exposition Park, people. And if there were 80,000 more in attendance this year, what the fuck is next year going to be like?

I've been suggesting a "leave of absence" from the massive scene for a few months now, pushing smaller shows that still provide the beloved festival vibe: Audiotisitic, for example. But now the Insomniac produced event has a 4-stage lineup, complete with one of the biggest names in Indie HipHop. While I love me some Cudi as much as the next girl, I don't love the idea of billions of kids piling out to San Bernadino to see him, when the rest of us just wanna see some Rusko.

And then there was HARD. I have wanted so badly over the past year for my faith to be restored. You remember right? (If not, you can read about it HERE.) You were willing to take a risk if you bought tickets to HARD HAUNTED MANSION, after that. And it paid off. When I suggested HARD to a friend just the other day, he laughed at me, I'll admit, but in the hopes of progress, I continued to defend the Destructo-backed brand. But here they are again, cancelling HARD LA. Ticket holders (who were pining to see MIA and N*E*R*D) now have access to HARD SUMMER August 7 (with Soulwax and Crystal Castles amongst the headliners), but doesn't that just mean even bigger crowds for LA State Historic Park?

Can we catch a break? On to the desert...

Mis-match muchness

I just came to terms with the fact that someone who continually lies, really is a liar. Such a shame it took me 23 years to realize this, could have saved myself a lot of trouble. For someone who's often labeled "negative" and "mean" I sure did want to believe the best in others. Look out now, I guess.

Comes with the territory.

RT @WhoWhatWear Respectfully disagree: there's a great deal of detective!

Laidback Luke Talks Dirty at Voyeur's 1st Birthday

After hearing a couple rumors, I had pretty much assumed Boys Noize was set to play Voyeur's 1 Year Anniversary Party, Tuesday. While I do love me some BN, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Voyeur's Johnny Shockey walking three backpack toting men across the street. One was very tiny, too tiny, to be anyone other than the most preshy of preshies, LAIDBACK LUKE. BBM sent. The line around the building goes crazy, and everyone settles in to our favorite EDM heaven, for THE BEST 1ST BIRTHDAY ANYONE'S EVER BEEN TO.

LBL takes to the decks as if he's playing another 60,000+ crowd, but to San Diego's luck, he's seriously within an arm's reach... as if I didn't love him enough for bringing back what EDC is REALLY about (great music and good vibes.)

Insane passion, insane presence, INSANE PERFORMANCE.

If you don't know, now you know. Voyeur AND Laidback Luke? Kind of a big deal ;)

EDC Wrap Up

So Rave kid Christmas has come and past, and I don't know if it's me growing up, ravers getting younger, or a little of both, but I'm sad to say I was a little disappointed. Did I have fun? Of course. Was it epic? Definitely. But something wasn't quite right, and I could tell from the get-go, this time was going to be different.

Did you notice they didn't search your bags? "Do you have a pacifier?" was all that I was asked. No, but I probably have illegal substances, that's ok right? I could have had a WEAPON in my adorably presh Hello Kitty backpack and NO ONE would have known. (*DISCLAIMER* I DID NOT HAVE A WEAPON.) But doesn't that seem a bit sketch right off the bat? Exactly.

Upon arrival the atmosphere appeared to be less happy-go-lucky and more i-want-to-get-on-that-fucking-field-and-will-do-whatever-it-takes-to-get-there. (READ: absolute chaos). We were on the coliseum floor by 5, in time for Afrojack, but by about 6:30/7 I was in full-blown PANIC ATTACK mode, due to crazy raver antics. I legitimately thought I might die in the middle of a rave riot. All I have to say is, THANK GOD FOR LIL JON.

Luckily for me, my night got better. Here's a few thanks to the people that made the clusterfuck that was EDC 2010 great...

Afrojack- I like you better when you don't talk :) but I fell in love with you over this song.

Laidback Luke- I LOVE that you sing along with us, and your set was exactly what EDC is all about, great music and good vibes... more about you later ;)

Ducksauce- The inflatable duck seriously made my night, and I was FRONT ROW CENTER  for this set, including the oh-so-fun Barbara Streisand

...And of course all the friends I DID and DIDN'T meet up with <3

hiyaaaaaaaa.

Here's to...

...women that express themselves. A young Saudi woman was shopping the other day, and I couldn't help but notice her beautiful vintage Gucci scarf. What stood out was not the scarf itself, but how she was wearing it, as a hijab, and I thought it was hands down awesome. Go her for both embracing her culture, and her passion for fashion. Why can't we have our cake and eat it too?

I wish I had a picture to show you, it was so much more of a statement in person!

PS- I couldn't help but think of the Abu Dabi women that appeared in SATC2!

Looking to score? Cluboholics (among other sites) are STILL giving away tickets. It'll take a bit of a social media race to get you entered in the drawing, but clearly worth it. Two-day tickets are up to, what, $150 or so after fees? So if you're down for a little friending and following action, check out the official rules @ cluboholics.com

Now those are lights.
